The History

The American Academy of International Education (AAIE) has nearly 45-years of history in education, starting as ‘Viva International Student Services’ (VIVA) back in the 70’s in Michigan, with a Goal to introduce the concept of ‘EDUCATION WITHOUT BORDERS’. We trained foreign-students of Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health at American Hospitals. Hundreds of foreign students generally from the Dominican Republic, Egypt, Israel, India, Japan, Pakistan, Nigeria, and Taiwan, came for short-term training.

Later-on, VIVA started recruiting foreign students to study at Madonna College (now Madonna University), Ohio Dominican College (now Ohio Dominican University), and Oberlin College. It also started recruiting medical students for CIFAS University in the Dominican Republic, University of Health Sciences in Antigua and Spartan Health Sciences University in St Lucia.

In the 80’s, VIVA was transformed into ‘American Academy of International Education’ in Michigan, then started its first foreign-campus in the Caribbean as “Dominican International College’ in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic to provide free or substantially free education to indigenous Dominicans & Haitians. (www.dominicaneducation.edu.do).

For many years it trained American & Canadian students of Medicine, Nursing & Public Health at the public and private hospitals in the Dominican Republic. The students came from Michigan State University, Wayne State University, Boston University, New York University, Yale, University of Texas and others.

It also operated a charitable hospital ‘AAA Hospital & Health Center’ within its campus in Santo Domingo. It was partially supported by a grant from Smile Train Organization of New York, providing free surgeries to hundreds of indigenous Haitians & Dominicans suffering from cleft-lips and cleft-palate.

After the earthquake in Hispaniola (Haiti & Dominican Republic) on January 12, 2010, its building was badly damaged, hence it moved back to Michigan, and set up the American Academy Of International Education, which was approved by the State of Michigan in 2011.

In 2019, it changed its name back to the Original Name – American Academy of International Education. In the near future AAIE plans to begin its High School to offer Grade 9-12 curriculum – both on campus and online.

Our short-term Goals are to set-up partnerships & collaboratIn the near future AAIE plans to begin its High School..ions with other American, Canadian, and Foreign High Schools & Colleges to;

  • Represent & Recruit students for a number of International Academic Institutions.
  • Bring foreign students to Study in Canada, USA and other countries.
  • Develop ‘Dual-Enrollment’ programs with reputable institutions throughout the world.
  • Offer ‘Study Abroad Programs’, helping students to have a truly ‘International’ experience in academic studies, practical training. and to create Global Employment Opportunities.

The long-term Goal of the American Academy of International Education is to have a ‘University Without Borders’ providing Free or substantially low-cost higher education to millions of students around the world, who are striving to get higher education but either can’t afford it, or can’t get a visa to study overseas. We hope to take the school to the students – if they have the passion and desire for World Class Education.

AAIE recognizes that education is the key to helping these young people around the world become employable, for elimination of poverty, illegal immigration and for the world to become prosperous and peaceful.

It is a long journey but with YOUR help it can be done.

As a student who has gone to a variety of different schools, this one is by far the most personal. I had the privilege of having Dr. Khan as my professor for the Massage Therapy program and Roxanne as my clinical instructor and I couldn’t have asked for better teachers. They both had personal stories or real life scenarios for just about every topic that we covered which made it extremely relatable and easy to remember. This was invaluable to have. Both of my teachers have decades of knowledge and there was never a superficial conversation when it came to massage. Everything had meaning and depth so I had to be paying attention the entire time.
